The lab
Nous Ergon is an applied AI lab. We build agentic systems against problems with measurable, continuously verifiable outcomes — and instrument every decision they make. The work is organized by purpose: a markets flagship, open-source developer tools, and apps.
In markets, Crucible is the experiment harness: a system for rigorous AI/ML experiments in finance, running live; Metron is its multi-broker portfolio analytics. The lab also maintains open-source developer tools — mnemon, krepis, flow-doctor — and apps such as morning-signal, built for our own work and released where they generalize.
The name
Nous Ergon — Greek for intelligence at work (νους εργον, pronounced noose air-gone).
Nous (νους) is mind, intellect, the capacity for reason. Ergon (εργον) is work, deed, function — the same root as English ergonomics and energy. The name frames what the lab does: agentic intelligence applied to problems with measurable outcomes. The work — the ergon — is what's on display.
How we build
Founded by Brian McMahon in March 2026. The systems are also a demonstration of how far AI-augmented engineering can scale.
